Iliev, Pavel Sashev ; Stará, Dana (advisor) ; Burian, Stanislav (referee)
The graduation thesis is focused on the macroeconomic development of Bulgaria and on its current economic position. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the main macroeconomic categories and describes the fiscal and monetary policies of the country, the functions of the Bulgarian National Bank, the currency regime, the tax system and the historic development of the Bulgarian economy. The current macroeconomic position of Bulgaria is relatively stable. The annual growth of the country's GDP was 1.6% in 2014 and 3.1% in 2015, according to preliminary data. The GDP per capita of Bulgaria has increased by more than 80% since the year 2000. 2014 and 2015 were marked by deflation. The unemployment rate started decreasing in 2014, but is still quite high. Foreign direct investments are increasing relatively slowly, but are otherwise oriented on important export sectors of the economics. All balance of payments accounts in Bulgaria were positive in 2014. The state budget in the past 5 years has been in deficit, which passed the 3% of GDP mark in 2014. Slow reforms in the judiciary and administrative systems are the most significant difficulties the country's macroeconomic development is facing.
