This Bachelor's Thesis is focused on the development, main function and characteristics of the Latin Quarter, which is a part of Paris and forms its historical nucleus. The 5 main chapters dissect the development of this cityscape, from ancient Lutetia to the present. Emphasis in placed on monuments and the progress of education in the Middle Ages; this Thesis is primarily concerned with medieval education in the age of its greatest blossoming. The Parisian university flourished in all regards; its specifics are highlighted. Further school institutions and the functioning of the local school system in the present are also mentioned. The Thesis provides a deeper look at the artists living and creating in the Latin Quarter as well as on locations connected to their lives and creations. The Latin Quarter remains a traditional center of cultural and intellectual life in Paris. The objective of this Thesis is to familiarize readers with the remarkable city Quarter along with all its specifics and specialities in an engaging and readable way, using the most trustworthy literary sources possible.
