Problem-based Geography Teaching: difficulties, topics and educational goals

The subject of Problem-based Learning is one of the areas frequently discussed in the field of Geographical education. Current master thesis titled Problem-based Geography Teaching: Difficulties, Topics and Educational Goals tries to find out how the method of Problem-based Learning is applied in the environment of the Czech Republic. The first part deals with the theoretical definition of the Problem-based Learning. Following part addresses both, the outcomes of the questionnaire on perception and usage of the discussed method by geography lecturers, and the results of structured interviews with teachers practising the method in their lectures. The aim of following analysis is the identification of appropriate topics in Problem- based geography learning and also the analysis of problem-based educational objectives in the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy. Based on the assumption that the Problem-based Learning is more developed abroad, the topics and educational objectives applied in the Czech environment are compared with those used in England which lean upon the document titled Schemes of Work. Map skills development in geography lessons

Presented diploma thesis describes the process of map skills development in educational reality. The key element of the thesis composes of teaching reality examination, which has not been explored in connection to map skills before. The reality examination allows us to document current situation in map skills development and to implement possible changes into the process. The main aim of this thesis is to describe various teaching approaches to map skill development in practical use, all documented by video recording which is the main method used for this thesis. Theoretical part defines the term of map skills and their descriptions as well as the personal approach to teaching and its impact on the educational process. The personal approach to teaching is in practice performed by the selection of teaching method and forms which are also discused in this thesis. The practical section of the thesis is dedicated to examination of the cognitive difficultness of tasks assigned by teacher, using the video as a method of the research which eliminates possible misinterpretation. The influence of modern technologies on teaching geography

This diploma thesis aims to ascertain on the basis of the qualitative research how are tablet computers used in geography lessons, what positive and negative aspects are found and if using of the tablet computers can influence a conception of geography lessons. The main aim is achieved by doing qualitative interviews with lower secondary teachers of geography. To achieve the main aim it as initially necessary to achieve artial aims. Firstly, the term modern technology was defined. Afterwards, the specific technology which will be examined in this diploma thesis in relation to a change the way of teaching was described. The description of pros and cons of utilization of tablet computers in classes was used in the creation of the scenario for the interview. Each teacher can influence teaching with his own approach as well as his attitude, which is involved in the preparation of lessons and the choice of using tablet computers. Application of The Historical Atlas of Czech Towns in geography lessons

This Bachelor thesis was created for the purpose of producing a set of tasks with the historical atlase of Czech towns which would outline the possibility of incorporating historical maps into teaching methods at secondary schools. There were defined certain sub-goals that approximately correspond to the structure of the whole study. With their assistance, a set of tasks with the Historical Atlas of Cesky Krumlov was created and the primary aim of the work was thus completed. At first, the content of the historical atlases was analyzed and the possibilities of their utilization were outlined. The didactic material contained in the atlases was described as well as the opportunities of using it. Using the secondary literature, there were outlined general areas of the skills, which develop the solving problems competences and which ought to be used while addressing the tasks. In order to create these tasks, the Framework educational programme for secondary schools was analyzed together with some of its expected outcomes, which might develop the historical atlas.
