History of Witch-hunts in Germany

The topic of this thesis are witch-hunts in Germany, where they took place especially between 1560 and 1650. First, the author turns to the power relations in the Catholic Church which led in the massive appearance of heretic groups around the year 1000. As example she mentions the Cathars and the actions the Church took against them. Further, she gives attention to the birth of Inquisition, its objective and the extension of its powers through papal bulls. After that, she turns to the Templars and their downfall {--} here, the French king cooperated with the Inquisition. In the next chapter, the author shows how the trials against heretics changed into witch-hunts. She names the possible circumstances under which this change took place. In the following part of the thesis, the author turns to the witch-hunts in Germany, their beginning and termination in 1775. In the last part she names possible reasons for the beginning and the termination of witch-hunts.
