The Characters and Space in Prose of Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic
Medková, Tereza ; Vojvodík, Josef (advisor) ; Škarpová, Marie (referee)
The bachelor's thesis focuses on the neo-baroque legends by Jiří Karásek from Lvovice, while the main focus is specifically on his legends in Posvátné ohně (1921) and Barokové oltáře (1922). The aim of the thesis is to examine how Karásek approaches the genre of a legend based on the characterisation of the protagonists and the space they reside in. Firstly, the theoretical part presents the general features of a legend, which are defined by how the figure of the saint is depicted in said legends. This thesis further summarizes the main characteristics of the Czech decadence. Based on the interpretation of the individual legends, common features of Karásek's legends are determined, which are then compared with the general features of legend as a genre. To a certain extent, the thesis also focuses on the issue of updating the Baroque in the context of Czech modernism especially in connection with Karásek's work.
