BÁRKOVÁ, Eva
The aim of the present BA thesis is to analyse the significance and benefits of respite care from caregiver parents´point of view. Firstly, the theoretical part gives an overview of key terms and terminology. Secondly, disabilities are thoroughly analyzed and explained in detail. Following chapters deal with caregiver families of disabled children. Next, social services in general are presented. Special attention is paid to describing respite care that is the primary point of focus of this thesis. A series of semi-structured interviews was used to collect data for the qualitative research part of the thesis. Caregiver families that visit respite care centres were selected to conduct the interviews with some of them currently receiving the services of such centres while others are not. A total of seven families were interviewed, all of whom have been attending respite care centre run by Auticentrum Charity in České Budějovice. Five out of seven families are currently receiving respite care while the remaining two are not. The thesis can be used as valuable resource for studies. Furthermore, it might also give feedback for people with jobs in respite care sector, caregiver parents and for respite care organizations as well. The author of this thesis is aware that looking after disabled person is a difficult job. The aim of the author was to collect as much information and data from the parents and find out about the scope of respite care they are receiving. The data that was collected is meant to be freely available to other families. The research concluded that there is a great demand for respite care among those families. Currently, the demand for respite care is far higher than the options and capacity available.
