Color of Body by Dytiscidae: Variability and Possible Function
HOKROVÁ, Monika
The aim of this thesis was to establish a photographic database of selected species of diving beetles (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) and use image analysis to characterize the number and extent of colour spots. Altogether 52 species were analyzed. They were classified into fourgroups based on their environmental characteristics provided in the Catalogue of water beetles of Czech Republic. The results confirmedthe hypothesis that the colour of adult diving beetles is correlated to their habitat preferences.
Analysis of genetic disposition of colouring in selected populations in the Czech Republic
BALCAROVÁ, Anna
The aim of this thesis was to analyze the genetic foundation of color in a selected population of horses in Czech Republic. For the analysis, I chose horse breed Paint horse. I characterized this breed, dealing with pigmentation and characteristic colors and patterns in the Paint horse. I also described the methods that I then used in the practical part. It was collected 11 blood samples from horses, in which was detected the presence of KIT gene mutation.
The effect of coloration of predator on reaction of birds at the feeder.
BURŠÍKOVÁ, Markéta
I investigate the effect of coloration of predator on the willingness of birds to undergo a predation risk at the winter feeder. I presented five colour modification of a sparowhawk and a control pigeon. The experimental species of birds presented at the feeder include great, blue, marsch and willow tits and nuthatch. My results suggest that birds are able to distinguish among the models but only in some extent. The behaviour of particular bird species differed significantly and was influenced by conditions like temperature and presence of the snow cover.
Human`s reaction to the red firebug's (\kur{Pyrrhocoris apterus}) coloration and it's modified coloration
VAŇKÁTOVÁ, Martina
So far, nobody examined a human reaction on aposematic signals. I used red firebug's coloration and its modifications in color and pattern for testing the human reactions. People showed refusing reaction on white color and on some types of eye spots. There is a big difference between reactions on red color and black color in different human groups. This needs further research.

Genetic basement of coat colour of horses
BALCAROVÁ, Anna
The aim of my bachelor work was to develop a literary study of the genetic foundation of color in horses. I outlined the principles of heredity by Mendel laws. I described the characteristics of individual colors and genes that influence them. Genes that affect the color of horses are becoming more and are constantly new. So I devoted to genes that have been characterized and described. I have mentioned but a few of those that have not been clarified.
Could fur characters be a source of phylogenetic information?
VOLDŘICHOVÁ, Marie
This work analysed phylogenetic utility of several characters associated with basic coloration, moulting and whorls in Cervidae via comparison of these traits with relatively robust phylogeny of this group based on several morphological, ethological and molecular data. I was able to detect probable evolutionary history of some selected traits, their ancestral state and synapomorphies of recognized clades.
The coat colouration of Felidae
PAVLISKA, Petr
The coat colouration has been studied in the family Felidae. I have tried to describe a structure, composition and marks of the mammalian coat and to show possible changes of the colouration based on my own direct observations. Finally I have made a getting methodology of photographic data for possible application in the species- and individual- identification in felids. This study is based on the literal review and personal observations in the zoological gardens (especially in the Czech Republic). This review offers to me some hypothese for future investigation.
The mammalian coat - a source of phylogenetically valuable characters?
VOLDŘICHOVÁ, Marie
Annotation I have tried to describe various components of a mammalian coat and it´s relation to the function and phylogeny of this structure. Finally I have described some coat structures which could be used as a diagnostic features. I have also tried to chose some coat markings and structures in cervids, which I would like to use in my next work about relation of fur features to the phylogeny of the family Cervidae. This work is based on a literal rewiew. My conclusions from these published sources are also discussed .
