The motivation of opioids users for abusing of Suboxone

Background: In the last few years the number of buprenorphine users has been increasing, as well as the number of Suboxone users in substitution treatment. Suboxone became the most used preparation based on buprenorphine in 2015. Thanks to the naloxone component any abuse in the form of intravenous application should not appear. But from the practical experience we know, that the naloxone component is not always working and we can observe its abuse in the form of intravenous application, as well as its black market distribution. This issue is discussed among experts rarely. Aims: The main aim of this study is to describe the motivation of opioids users to abuse Suboxone, either with intravenous application or its distribution to the black market. Next aim is to identify and describe the aversive effect that is connected to intravenous application of Suboxone, specifically how the aversive effect can evince and in what degree it is present. The aim is also to find a possible link between the intravenous application of Suboxone and the needle fixation phenomenon. At the same time the risks associated with this method of application and the risk of transmission of infectious diseases and other health complications are described in numerous publications and it is a compelling reason why we should give more attention to the theme of needle fixation. Finally, complications during substitution therapy associated with the transition from injecting drugs to another method of substitution substances administration are also common.
