Vyhodnocení projevů chování pštrosa dvouprstého na konkrétní farmě
Konečný, Roman
The main goal of this diploma thesis was to evaluate behavioral manifestations based on data obtained during ethological observation of a breeding triad of ostrich on a farm in Hodějice. Monitoring was performed on a breeding triad (one male ostrich and two female ostrich). Observation was carried out throughout three seasons of the year -- spring, summer and autumn -- by the way of direct observation from 8am till 6pm in 5-minute intervals. The following activities were analyzed: food intake, drinking, defecation, movement, standing, sitting, running, comfort behavior, love call/mating, vocal manifestations. Based on the ethological observation it was ascertained that among most frequent daily activities of ostriches bred on the farm in Hodějice belonged food intake, movement and standing. During spring season the biggest amount of observation was recorded at food intake (30,50 +- 3,45 occurrences). The standing and movement in fowl-run in monitored animals was recorded equally (24,83 +- 1,47, respectively 24,83 +- 4,28 of records). During summer season there was a significant (p < 0,05) increase of time devoted to food intake (35,83 +- 2,21 out of the number of observations). In autumn a significant decrease (p < 0,05) of manifestation of this activity down to 28 +- 3,97 out of the number of observations was documented. From the evaluation of influence of season of the year and sex of ostrich on the behavioral manifestations of ostrich, a significant difference (p < 0,05) in food intake between female ostrich in summer (37,50 +- 2,90 of records) and male ostrich in autumn (27,00 +- 5,24 of records) was determined. In case of "movement" activity, it was recorded a highly significant (p < 0,01) difference in terms of sex of ostrich and season of the year. In autumn season a significant (p < 0,01) increase of "standing" activity was documented in comparison with observation in spring (23,50 +- 0,50 of records) and summer (24,50 +- 0,50 of records) season. Although climatic conditions in the Czech Republic are different from the climatic conditions in original habitat of the ostrich, a negative influence of these conditions on natural manifestations of the ostrich was not detected.
