Principles of Initialization in Formation of Anthroponyms in Czech Sign Language

This bachelor's thesis analyses the formal aspects of initialization in formation of anthroponyms in Czech sign language. The main objective is to describe how the initials are modified in comparison to the manual alphabet. The first part of the thesis is more focused on theory. Firstly, it deals with the topic of proper nouns in spoken Czech, focus being anthroponyms (especially given names and surnames). Then the author focuses on the topic of initialization and related terminology (two approaches to initialization, local lexicalization, single manual letter signs etc.) and manual alphabet. After that, based on the diploma thesis by Radka Faltínová (2005), the author describes the most common types of name signs in Czech sign language. The material used in the research part of this thesis was taken from the news programme in Czech sign language (Zprávy v českém znakovém jazyce) because of the high concentration of anthroponyms. In the first part of the research, the author analyses all productions of anthroponyms and puts them into categories based on the ways in which they were formed - there are some types that aren't commonly used in regular communication.
