The diploma thesis deals with the issue of finding the position of small and medium-sized holdings, especially family farms, in the current environment of agribusiness. For this purpose, it defines the business environment of agribusiness and the development phase of Czech agriculture in this environment. It evaluates the historical development of the business and size structure of agricultural holdings in our country after 1989. In addition, it defines the specifics of family farms and its position in Czech agriculture in comparison with the other EU member states. The theoretical knowledge is confronted with the real situation of a concrete small family farm. Using SWOT analysis, strategies for the possible future development of the farm are formulated.

The dissertation deals with the role of the size of the agricultural holding and the role of entrepreneur structure in current conditions of dynamic changes in agriculture in global and regional context. For this purpose, we established theoretical limits and evaluated approaches to understanding the size of the farms and its boundaries, decisive socioeconomic and political factors and processes influencing the forming of the size of the structure of agricultural holdings. Basic tendencies of the development of the size structure of the agricultural holdings in the EU member states are evaluated including the importance of the individual size segments and their share in the output of the industry. In this context the results of the analyses and comparisons of the development of the entrepreneur structure in the original and new member states of the EU are presented in comparison with the development of farms in the US. The thesis contributes to the broadening of knowledge and study of the role of the size of farm as an essential determinant of its development in current agribusiness from the point of view of objective approaches to the use in strategic support of the industry and enterprises of primary production.
