Revitalization of the Central Station and the Underpass Beneath
Richter, Jiří ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
Current Status Because we are waiting for transfer of the station, the railway is in a deplorable state. Technical and capacity (we can check 30 000 passengers per hour, during the fair is required 50 000 passengers per hour). During the reconstruction is needed to create a network of stations that are interconnected with the public transport. The train will become part of public transport and reduce the burden on the main station node. Move or don't move? The question which is difficult to answer. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages, and they are changing over time. The situation has changed very much in the advent of the financial crisis. Therefore, it should be professional discussion leading to the optimal solution. This does not happen, politicians are divided into two groups already know in advance that their pproposal is the best. Afterwards, looking for a reasons. I decided to check the option not move. The biggest drawback of this option is problematic construction (in service or temporary move). The biggest advantage is its link to public transport and the proximity to the town. Region Connection to the region is very important for me. This I see as a advantage of Brno, which should be further developed. Together with the development of public transport, automobile transport should be reduced. Barrier My work is trying to disprove the idea that the railway creates a barrier. On the contrary, I try to look at rail as a place that connects. Not only each stop, but the parts of the town as well. Construction Reinforced concrete arches are arranged in a triangle layout, creating a spatial truss. There is a train station in it. Trains ar placed on it. Typology The station is treated as free space, which is subsequently filled with different functions. These functions may be, if necessary, modified.

The Compact urban structure in the Czech Republic
Gellnerová, Martina ; Erben, Adam (referee) ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (advisor)
The aim of the thesis is to design a new urban structure with a connection to the historical center and complement the existing historical buildings. The addressed area is located in the historic center, which is also a city monument zone. There is a large number of heritage-protected buildings, which are also dominant. A large part of the buildings was bombed at the end of World War II. The proposal tries to respect the existing development and at the same time complement it so that it is similar to the structure of the city before the bombing. Furthermore, the creation of boundaries for the division of public and private space, the creation of public space for people, not cars, to make the Rokytná River embankment more accessible and attractive together with the reconstruction of an almost unused industrial area. The proposal also includes the return of the city hall to the main square. The newly proposed buildings are mainly residential in nature.

(Not) A Friend of the city? Department stores from the 1960s to the 1980s in the small towns of South Bohemia.
NOVOSÁDOVÁ, Kateřina
My thesis deals with the phenomenon of department stores built between the 1960s and the 1980s in small towns in South Bohemia. They are buildings fashioned in the socialist style which often had strong impact on the appearance of the town. The main goal of my work is not only to document urban changes of the historic centres of the chosen towns and to reconstruct the circumstances of the constructions of those department stores, but also to describe their art historical aspect. I have chosen department stores in Písek, Blatná, Protivín, Vodňany, Strakonice, Vimperk and Prachatice which were not built by the company Prior. The main investor was the company Pramen or Jednota. The main primary sources of the research are from files in the respective town halls, from state district archives and newspapers of that period. Those sources have often not been published yet. The secondary literature is used for a comparison. The sources help to clarify and assess how the chosen buildings changed the appearances of the towns. The thesis describes some features of the individual buildings related to their functions and depicts their facades, so called "billboards in the town", which provided the main communication with the people. And then I try to find variations and combinations of materials used in the construction of the buildings. The thesis also deals with the artistic decoration complementing the architecture of the buildings and how much of it has remained. The text provides not only comparison of the buildings in small towns in the given areas, but there is also a comparison with major department stores of the company Prior in regional capitals in former Czechoslovakia. At the end it touches on the question of the future of the examined buildings and their possible preservation as national monuments.
