The topic of the thesis is devoted to identifying a practical use of contactless laser caliper for the measurement of diameter at breast height of a tree. For the field work was selected assets in Planá, pilsen region. During the field work there were investigated tree diameters at breast height on circular sample plots. The criteria for selection of the forest stands were their age and prevailing slope. The results were evaluated using two-way ANOVA (time factor), and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (precision factor). Diameter distribution detected by contactless caliper is the same as diameter distribution which was detected by contact caliper. The time consumption is less if the measurement is carried out by the contactless caliper. The results show that the contactless caliper is suitable for the practical use in measurement of tree diameter at breast height.
