Perception health and illness by the Roma minority.
MLEJNKOVÁ, Silvie
The Roma minority differs from the majority society mainly by its history, characteristics, traditions and customs, but especially by its perception, which is reflected in the approach to health and illness. It is important to have at least a minimum of knowledge about other cultures, because we also meet such patients in healthcare facilities. The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis entitled Perception health and illness by the Roma minority is devoted to history, but also the present. Attention is also devoted to the characteristics, definition health and illness, to which the factors are also related that affect health and illness. Perception health and illness also have an influence on the provision of nursing care. It was discussed with in the last chapter of the bachelor thesis. In total, three goals were set, namely to describe how Romany perceive health, the second goal was to describe how Romany perceive the illness and the last third goal was to describe how attitude towards health and illness affect the Romany access to the prevention. The practical part of the bachelor thesis was then processed using a qualitative research survey, specifically through semi-structured interviews with the Romany aged 18 to 50 years living in the South Bohemian region. A total of 10 interviews were conducted with the Romany members. The information obtained was further analysed in the form pencil and paper, then classified into categories and subcategories. The research showed that the Roma minority perceives health as a value that occupies a very high place in the value system. But it was not in the first place. The first place was taken by the family. Despite the fact that the Roma value health well, the attitude towards maintaining it is negligible. Their unhealthy lifestyle often did not correspond to statements about the value of health. The Romany most often associate the disease with pain, which limits them in their daily activities, and therefore often use a large number of analgesics. Surprising results were obtained in the part of prevention, where without one informant all went to the regular preventive inspections. The results can be used in a professional article or in teaching, for example in the education to health.
The impact of the behaviour of individuals addicted to drugs on the Romany community
KVASNIČKOVÁ, Kateřina
The diploma thesis deals with the drug addiction issue, the circumstances that lead to drug addiction and most importantly the impact the drug addiction has on an individual. It also describes the behaviour of the drug addicted in different life situations and the impact of such behaviour; specifically the impact of behaviour of the drug addicted Romany on functioning of Romany families and communities. The aim of this thesis is to present drug-related issues of the Romany ethnic group, specific aspects of the behaviour of the drug addicted and the impact of such behaviour on their communities. Terminology related to the topic is defined and further described and drug addiction related issues of the Romany ethnic group are specified. As a part of the analysis there are semi-structured interviews which aim to describe, as authentically as possible, behaviour of the drug addicted Romany and to help people understand what kind of impact the Romany community perceive as the most urgent. Among the most important there are: the negative and condemning attitude of the older generation towards the drug addicted members; financial burden of the families of the drug addicted and prevailing negative attitude of the majority society towards the Romany as a whole, which is strengthened by the behaviour of the drug addicted and by higher rate of criminality among them.
