The Intergenerational Family Solidarity Eyes of Social work Students
TUŠEROVÁ, Tereza
This graduate thesis deals with the issue of intergenerational family solidarity through the eyes of social work students. The main goal is todescribe the attitudes of social work students in regard to intergenerational family coexistence. Relationships between seniors and young people are influenced by mutual interaction, personal experience, family background and other factors. The topic of interpersonal relationships concerns each of us, not only students of social work, for the cornerstone of the younger generation's attitude towards seniors is formed by the family, from which the aforementioned intergenerational family solidarity arises. This work focuses on the relationship with and attitude towardsthese issues from the perspective of students of social work, in which they work with theassumption of social feelings, and not only those of seniors. The work consists of theoretical and research sections. The theoretical part of the work consists of several areas. It deals with a selected period of human age, and addresses the topic of work in relation to adulthood, old age, and the demographic curve. It then describesformal care for the elderly, services intended for this target group andanyfinancial support related to their care. The third section describesthe informal caregiver. The penultimate areafocuses on the topic of intergenerational solidarity, and the end of the theoretical partconcerns the titleof the graduate thesis itself, and that is the social work student. For the research partof the thesis, qualitative research, the method of questioning and the technique of semi-structured interview were chosen. Interviews were conducted with social work students and were focused on several areas. The main research question was: "How do social work students perceive intergenerational coexistence in one household?" It was further divided into several subquestions. The research itself took place in stages, the first being pre-research and only thereafter was the research itself conducted. All interviews were recorded and literally transcribed. The information obtained was processed by the method of creating groups based on certain similarities, and the resulting data were structured according to individual sub-questions. The research showed that social work students perceive coexistence with older family members in one household as a natural development of their family orfamily situation. They consider it natural behavior within the family, behaviorwherein members approach each otherwith love, respect and understanding. They wish to continue to care for their loved ones in a family circle with minimal or no use of social services for the elderly. Social work students agree that studying this field has brought them a wealth of information that will make life easier for them as a family, and incaring for aging members of their family, but also agree that the study did not affect their view and attitude towards intergenerational cohabitation. Intergenerational coexistence provides them and other members of the household with one important need, namely "not being alone." The results can also serve social work students who deal with theseissues. Furthermore, this graduate thesis can also be used by the general public to obtain information about intergenerational family cohabitation.
Supervision as a tool for development of students - future social workers
ŠABARTOVÁ, Alžběta
The main instrument of improving the social work education in the Czech Republic is the guideline The Minimum Standards of Education in Social Work issued by the Association of Educators in Social Work. According to this Standard, a student of social work, as a future social worker, shall have not only theoretical, but also practical knowledge which include professional practical training and supervision. It is also essential to become aware of the fact that a student, as a future social worker, will bear the responsibility when helping people in difficulties. Therefore, the school should ensure that any information a student receives during his/her study, is supplied to him/her in a seizable form. That is why it is important that the school provides its students with a supervision which is to improve the quality of their professional preparation, offer them insight in social worker profession and help them solve not only any divergences a student can see between theory and practice. The aim of the Dissertation is to seek higher-education supervisors´ and students´ views of the supervision implemented as a part of future social workers´ studies. Two research questions have been raised within the Dissertation. How do the students future social workers perceive the supervision which is implemented as a part of studies? What do supervisors consider as the purpose of supervision (which is realised as a part of studies) for students future social workers? The necessary information for the elaboration of the Dissertation were acquired through qualitative research. Interviewing and a semi-structured dialogue technique were chosen as the most suitable data collection method. Two research groups were chosen for the needs of the Dissertation. The first group consists of highest-class students in the field of social work at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences and Faculty of Theology at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. The other research group consists of supervisors operating at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences and Faculty of Theology at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. The research showed that students perceive supervision as useful and purposeful. Students appreciate the possibility of exchanging their experience. Differences appeared regarding the duration of the supervision session. Students mostly do not know what to talk about during supervision. Greater part of the students has not a problem to confide to a supervisor, but shortcomings were also found in this respect. Regarding the supervisors of professional practical training, in their opinion, the purpose of supervision is especially to educate students, improve students' knowledge, interconnect the theory and the practice, support students in the course of their professional practical training and give students the opportunity to reflect their own practical experience. There was also raised an idea to establish supervision directly in workplaces, where students exercise their professional practical training. The Dissertation may serve as a feedback for supervisors and as an educational material for students. It can also be used to obtain a more comprehensive picture of functioning of school supervisions of professional practical training that takes place in universities.
