Evaluation of the currency of source information for CITES organisms on the Species+ web platform
KORCH, Martin
The aim of the work was to assess the existence and timeliness of CITES standard references for CITES animals on the Species+ web platform. Among the most neglected groups in Invertebrata were Mollusca, Arthropoda and Echinodermata, where 30 references (14%) were missing from the total number of species included. As for the Vertebrata, it was the group of Elasmobranchii and Reptilia where 276 references (20%) were missing from the total number of species included. Most of the available references were published more than 10 years ago. The number of unique references was much higher in Vertebrata than in Invertebrata. The most recent references are currently for Cnidaria, Echinodermata, fishes (Actinopteri, Dipneusti and Coelacanthi), Elasmobranchii and Amphibia and, in general, species included in Appendix II.
