Peripheral settlements of České Budějovice district and their human and demographic capital.
PSOHLAVCOVÁ, Tereza
The bachelor thesis deals with the evaluation of human and demographic capital in peripheral and other settlements of the district of České Budějovice. Peripheral and ultra-peripheral settlements are defined on the basis of their greater remoteness by public transport from micro-regional cities. Suburban settlements are characterized by strong construction of suburban houses. Semi-peripheral settlements are the remaining settlements. Peripheral areas arise as clusters of neighboring peripheral and ultra-peripheral settlements (+ settlements without transport connections). Therefore, first necessary was to define micro-regional towns and also lower settlements (very small towns, townships, central villages, major villages and larger villages) by using four indicators of settlements centres - population, services, commuters and transport connections. Secondly, an evaluation of human and demographic capital of settlement types and peripheral areas was made on the basis of several indicators of population development, age structure, education, housing construction, unemployment, business rate and other indicators. There were defined three micro-regional towns, four very small towns, two townships and a number of other lower settlement centres in the district of České Budějovice. Large areas with peripheral and ultra-peripheral settlements (+ settlements without connections) have been created at a greater distance from micro-regional towns. There were defined 15 peripheral areas. Suburban settlements show very favorable values of human and demographic capital, while micro-regional towns and townships show little favorable values. In the naturally valuable landscape on the south of České Budějovice, peripheral areas have significantly favorable values of the monitored capitals, while some peripheral areas around Týn nad Vltavou and in the Novohradské hory Mountains have opposite values.
Peripheral settlements of the Jindřichův Hradec district and their human and demographic capital
NOVÁK, Štěpán
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to define peripheral settlements and peripheral areas of the Jindřichův Hradec district and to analyse their human and demographic capital. First, settlement centres are defined with a different hierarchy based on population size, representation of services, commuting to work and school, and the number of public transport connections on a working day. Micro-regional cities are the key settlement centres, because peripheral and ultra-peripheral settlements are defined in relation to them. The lower settlement centres are very small towns, townships, centre villages, significant and larger villages. Peripheral settlements are bounded by a half-hourly isochrone of public transport connections, ultra-peripheral settlements by an hourly isochrone. Suburban settlements have a high proportion of suburban houses, and semi-peripheral settlements lie between suburban and peripheral settlements. In addition, settlements without public transport connections are defined. Subsequently, peripheral areas consisting of peripheral and semi-peripheral settlements and settlements without public transport connections were delineated. The human and demographic capital of peripheral and other types of settlements, peripheral areas and their types was monitored using 12 indicators in the next step. The indicators analyse the population development of the settlements, their population balance, the age and education structure of the population in the settlements, and another characteristics of the settlements. The values found in the last quartiles are considered problematic. Jindřichův Hradec, Třeboň and Dačice became the micro-regional towns of the district. Within half an hour's commuting distance there are large areas with peripheral and ultra-peripheral settlements, or settlements with no connections (especially in the territory of Česká Kanada, Studensko, Dešensko, Staňkovsko and Českovelenicko), which form peripheral areas. České Velenice, Suchdol nad Lužnicí, Slavonice, Nová Včelnice, Nová Bystřice, Studená and Kardašova Řečice became very small towns. Suburban settlements around Jindřichův Hradec have the most favourable values of human and demographic capital. Peripheral settlements reach average values. The peripheral areas among the micro-regional towns of the district fared better. The peripheral areas along the Austria border fared the worst.
Rozvinutost periferních, semiperiferních a střediskových sídel okresu Český Krumlov
MAXA, Ondřej
The main goal of the bachelor thesis was evaluation of human and demographic capital of peripheral and other types of settlements in Český Krumlov district. In the first step, settlement centres with different hierarchy (micro-regional towns, very small towns, townships, central villages and more important villages) were defined based on indicators such as population, services for residents, number of commuters and number of transport connections in working day (bus and train). In the second step, peripheral settlements were bordered in the map based on 30-minute isochron of bus and train connections to micro-regional towns (also ultra-peripheral settlements - behind 60-minute isochron) as well as suburban settlements (based on characteristics of suburbanisation) and semi-peripheral (remaining settlements). In the third step, human and demographic capital in individual remote types of settlements (variably long population development, age structure, education, entrepreneurship rate, housing construction and age of municipal representatives) were evaluated. In monitored district, there are 2 micro-regional towns (Český Krumlov, Kaplice), 3 very small towns (Velešín, Větřní a Vyšší Brod), 3 townships, 10 central villages and 10 more important villages. Approximately 41% of the district area and 19% of the district population belong to peripheral and ultra-peripheral settlements. Surprisingly, semi-peripheral settlements have the most favourable values of human and demographic capital, and even also ultra-peripheral settlements and settlements without joints for some indicators. Peripheral settlements also have relatively favourable values. These findings greatly undermine the conventional notion of the underdevelopment of peripheral territories.
