The issues of translation of realia and language phenomena of Oleksiy Chupa's novel Fairy tales from my bomb shelter

The thesis The Issues of Translation of Realia and Language Phenomena of Oleksiy Chupa's Novel "Fairy tales from my bomb shelter" focuses on the analysis of translation problems and realia of Donbass in the novel by contemporary Ukrainian writer Oleksiy Chupa. This work is specific in its mapping the mental image of contemporary Donbas and its large amount of realia, slang, colloquial expressions, and surzhyk. The first part of the thesis is devoted to an overview of the development of the image of Donbas in Ukrainian literature, in particular, on the example of several contemporary authors; the second part focuses on the selection of translation theories, theoretical and practical methods for the translation of linguistic phenomena occurring in the work under study. Practical examples from the text of the work with possible translation solutions are also presented. The aim of the thesis is to determine the functionality of theoretical translation procedures in the translation of a particular literary work.
