Care of a patient with mental disorder from the perspective of a health worker in a social care facility
HRÁDKOVÁ, Denisa
The bachelor thesis is titled "Care for patient with mental disabilities from the perspective of healthcare worker in a social care facility". The first aim was to map the application of healthcare workers' competencies within social facilities. The second aim was to identify the needs of patients with mental disabilities in a selected social facility. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and an empirical part. In the theoretical part, the definition, etiology, symptoms, diagnosis, and degrees of mental disability are described. This part also includes the bio-psycho-social-spiritual needs of patients and addresses the provision of healthcare, the duties of healthcare personnel, and the social facility itself. The empirical part was processed through qualitative research using semi-structured interviews. The research sample consisted of nine nurses working in selected social facilities. To achieve the set objectives, seven research questions were created. In the qualitative research investigation of this bachelor thesis, it was found that nurses in social facilities do not have the competence to perform intravenous therapy. Their competencies are applied in administering oral medications and wound care. Furthermore, from the conducted interviews with the nurses, it was revealed that all of the bio-psycho-social-spiritual needs of patients are adequately met in social facilities. The output of the study is an informational material intended for the general public, nurses working with mentally disabled individuals, student education, and family members of persons with disabilities. Additionally, the thesis will serve as a basis for further possible quantitative research that would verify the data obtained or as a source of information in the reconstruction of health and social facility standards.
Precautionary principle and its role in social work
RÁZKOVÁ, Daniela
The bachelor thesis deals with the precautionary principle and tries to find a field of its possible application in the social domain, concretely in the organization Polovina nebe. The author is aware that the precautionary principle is a debated and controversial ethical principle that has its supporters and opponents, whose reservations are expressed. In the introductory part the author deals with the origin of the term and the beginnings of the application of the precautionary principle in the environmental field and its anchoring in the area of law. The theoretical support of the thesis are scientific literary sources, especially from the work of the philosopher Hans Jonas. Furthermore, the author presents her own definition of the precautionary principle for the social area and its possible application to action in the non-profit organization Polovina nebe, which provides social services. It is based on empirical experience and a survey among clients of social services and suggests addressing shortcomings. It recommends regulating the precautionary principle by law for social services so that the principle is aimed at protecting the quality of life of individuals and life itself. It concludes that the precautionary principle undoubtedly has a significance in the field of social work, because the central and highest value of this principle is individual human life whose quality we must protect from harm. Since, often not only the quality of human life is at stake, but also life itself.
Activization of seniors in social care facilities
Javoříková, Veronika ; Ondrušová, Jiřina (advisor) ; Cimrmannová, Tereza (referee)
I focused on the topic of activation of seniors in social care facilities in my diploma thesis. The aim of the diploma thesis was to describe possibilities regarding the activation of seniors in social care facilities and to find out how much the activation services in selected types of social care facilities differ. I conducted a research survey through interviews with social and activation workers from four types of social care facilities: homes for the elderly, special regimes homes, hospice care and social beds in long-term hospitals. The questions for the interviews were semi-structured and aimed at finding out the possibilities and differences in the activation of seniors in these facilities. All social care facilities are legally obliged to activate their clients. However, on the basis of this research, I have come to the conclusion that not all facilities follow this requirement. Some entities activate their clients very little, and for this reason, these people are suffering and their life feels meaningless. On the other side, in facilities where activation is provided, seniors are more satisfied, feel they have a meaningful life, and they enjoy their life. As a result of the research, I found that the differences in activation of seniors in social care facilities are really significant.
