SOCIAL PREVENTIVE PROGRAMS FOR THE CHILDREN AND YOUTH IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
HRUBANTOVÁ, Šárka
The focus of the thesis is the social preventive programs for children and youth in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part of my work initially focuses on the most common forms of risk behavior that occur in children, their causes and prevention. Next, I provide a description of specific preventive social programs that are implemented in the Czech Republic, focusing on their connection to volunteering. The practical part of thesis contains two set goals. First, mapping the social preventive programs for children and youth in the Czech Republic, and second, seeing if the programs were implemented according to the rules or if they needed modifications. To achieve this objectives, I selected to engage in quantitative research by using questionnaires. Data collection took place in March and April 2012 in the non-profit organizations that implement programs. 43 questionnaires were sent out, and 22 respondents chose to participate in the research. 4 of the 22 respondents were found to not work directly in social preventive programs, and were thus later excluded from my calculations. Research showed that the most common programs in the Czech Republic are ?Pět P? and ?The Duke of Edinburgh?s Award?. The organizations reported that they created their own methodology, which they used to decide upon the management and implementation of the program. In researching the programs, I discovered great differences in the percentage of people working in the program voluntarily, as well as the individual program?s view and approach to an age condition for volunteering. As a result of the variability in the approach to volunteers of the main programs of ?Lata? and ?Pět P?. Some cities are experiencing a shortage of clients and others a surplus. I suggested the creation of better marketing in the cities where they have few customers as well as increased cooperation with schools and organizations that help underprivileged families. This bachelor thesis would be beneficial and useful to both the organizations implementing social preventive programs and the public who should be better informed about these programs.
