Evaluating Methods of Assessing Force and Velocity during Punching Specific Movements
Omcirk, Dan ; Tufano, James Joseph (advisor) ; Reguli, Zdenko (referee) ; Fernandes, John (referee)
Title: Evaluating Methods of Assessing Force and Velocity during Punching Specific Movements Objectives: This dissertation had three main objectives: 1. To determine the ability of different commercially available punch trackers (Corner, Everlast, and Hykso) to recognize specific punch types (lead and rear straight punches, lead and rear hooks, and lead and rear uppercuts) thrown by trained and untrained punchers. 2. To determine the validity of three commercially available punch trackers (Corner, Hykso, and StrikeTec) for monitoring punch velocity and force during rear straight punches, rear hooks, and rear uppercuts performed at lower and higher intensities by trained and untrained punchers. 3. To determine the reliability and load-velocity profiles of three different landmine punch throw variations (seated without trunk rotation [LPwo], seated with trunk rotation [LPw], and standing whole body [LP]) with different loads (20.0 kg, 22.5 kg, and 25.0 kg), all with the dominant (DH) and non-dominant hand (NH). Methods: Due to three independent studies in this dissertation, the methods are divided into three sections, each connected to the objectives mentioned above: 1. Ten trained and 11 untrained punchers different punch combinations, and punch trackers data were compared to data from video...
Kinematic and dynamic characteristics of straight punches in elite male boxers
Pádecký, Jan ; Tufano, James Joseph (advisor) ; Pavelka, Radim (referee)
Title: Kinematic and dynamic characteristics of straight punches in elite male boxers Objectives: The purpose of this study was to quantify lower limb forces in the x, y, and z directions and their association with jab and cross relative peak force, and jab and cross peak velocity. Methods: A sample of 12 elite male subjects participated in the present study, which took place over two days. Subjects were familiarized with the procedures during the first day. During the second day, the subjects performed a standardized warm-up protocol, followed by one straight punch with the rear and then the lead hand to a force plate that was suspended in the air at the chin level by a cable system. The subjects were standing on two separate tri-axial force plates. Punch velocity was assessed using a Qualisys Motion Tracking Manager, where the marker used was placed in the middle of 12 OZ gloves. Results: Subject body weight resulted in a high positive significant correlation with jab and cross peak force, and a non-significant low and moderate positive correlation with jab and cross peak velocity, respectively. Partial correlation controlling for bodyweight resulted in a very high positive significant correlation between jab peak velocity and jab peak force and a high positive, but the non-significant...
The influence of physiotherapeutic intervention with Propriomed on postural stability of 11-13 years old tennis players
Bednarzová, Barbora ; Rašev, Eugen (advisor) ; Kučerová, Ilona (referee)
Title: The influence of physiotherapeutic intervention with Propriomed on postural stability of 11-13 years old tennis players Objectives: The main aim of this thesis is objectivize the influence of physiotherapeutic intervention involving exercise with Propriomed on the success of strokes and speed of the swing phase of 11-13 years old tennis players. Methods: Teoretical part is composed like a recherche in which are informations that make base fot the practical part. For the practical part was made experimental study which contains sample of 17 probands in age between 11-13 that are active tennis players for more than 5 years. Pobands was divided into intervention group and control group. Intervention group had training with Propriomed once a week. Main task of study was analysis of succes rate and speed of the swing phase of different tennis shots before and after physiotherapeutic intervention with Propriomed and comparing results of both groups. Results: In beckhand shot was observed statistically significant difference after finishing first intervention. It is possible to claim that training with Propriomed positively influence precision of the backhand shot in a short term. Proband reached the best results of succes rate of forehands after last measurement. From that we could claim that...
