Latin Visitors' Graffiti from the Theban Region in the Context of Travel in Roman Egypt

This paper deals with Latin visitors' graffiti from sites in Theban region, namely from the Memnon colossi and the royal tombs from the Valley of the Kings. The description and analysis of both sets of inscriptions are followed by a comparison of the material. The graffiti are also put in the broader context of the history of Roman Egypt, the development of the phenomenon of tourism in Egypt, the use and spread of Latin in the Roman province of Egypt and also other non-Latin inscriptions from same sites.
