Comparison of international competitiveness of the Czech Republic and Hungary

The bachelor thesis deals with the characteristics of international competitiveness of the Czech Republic and Hungary in terms of key areas affecting the competitiveness of the surveyed countries, namely growth performance, institutional quality, structural competitiveness, innovation performance and quality of human resources. The work is based on the Global Competitiveness Report 2014-2015 of the World Economic Forum. Then work compares the shortcomings of the surveyed countries in terms of competitiveness and determines their location in the world scale. At the end the work determines the future prospects and possible solutions for increasing competitiveness of the economies. During the work has been found out that even the economies have different level of maturity, their competitiveness problems are similar. The key problems of the countries are the inadequate innovation performance, which is one of the means of progress (in the case of Hungary), or to maintain a competitive position (in the case of the Czech Republic), the poor quality of the business environment with low attractiveness for foreign and domestic investors and causing among others unemployment and outflow of skilled labor and the third inefficient government sector.
