Use of activities in the presence of a dog for children in an institutional care
PAPEŽOVÁ, Zdeňka
Abstract Use of activities in the presence of a dog for children in an institutional care The canistherapy is currently an actively used supportive rehabilitation technique than it was in previous years. The canistherapy operates in many areas relating to children, adults with a certain type of a disadvantage or also seniors. Research works have not so far addressed an effect of the canistherapy to a very specific group of clients, i.e. children in an institutional care specifically in children´s homes. Children placed in the children´s homes are generally a high risk group in terms of an action of socially undesirable phenomena and a psychical deprivation. Above all for the reasons of those risks the canistherapy is an interesting and suitable method for an inclusion in the program of activities in the children´s home. The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis is divided into two areas, from which one represents a theoretical knowledge from areas of the institutional care and then it deals with the psychical deprivation. The other section of the theoretical part deals with questions of the canistherapy, its definition, methods and specifically focuses on the development of the child´s personality and the need of the presence of a dog during its development. An attention is also paid to concrete activities with dogs. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to define activities with the dog in the area of an improvement of social relationships and emotional experience at children in the institutional care. For a reason of the specific area of the research, the author chose a qualitative research, which is characterized by an in-depth description of the studied problem. The research technique was a direct participant observation in the chosen children´s home and then semi-controlled interviews with canistherapeutists and tutors. The research results present activities proven within the improvement of the social relations and emotional experience of the children. The activities are especially focused on an increase of their confidence, responsibility and evoking of pleasurable feelings. A completion of short and long term objectives at individual children was proved only partially for a reason of a short research period, some tasks require a longer field of an exposure and they will be continued even after the end of the research. This thesis should serve as an example of a good practice for using of the canitherapy in the children´s homes and in the other types of facilities within an institutional care.

The thesis considers problems with foster care in The Czech republic. The theoretical part of my work outlines the questions of family environment, its importance, pathology of family, psychical deprivation, sub deprivation of children living out of their own families. It also adumbrates general overview of foster care system and its history, process of mediation of substitutional family care, forms of foster allowances and method of functioning of foster care families. Operative part of the thesis contains research through the medium questionnaires. Target group consist of fosterers living in administrative unit of The Municipal Office in Prachatice; the office with extended authority. The inquiry was made to find out their awareness of their rights and appealed claims, their satisfaction with current foster care system as well as what experiences the fosterers have with the attending their applications and what services or experts are missed by them in the region. This form of foster family care is very demanding. Appreciation belongs to all who wants to give abandoned children their helping hands and opened hearts. They are guided by love and endeavour to help.
Problems of Children´s Homes in the Light of Media
KREJSA, Zdeněk
The dissertation deals with problems of Children´s Homes, especially with problems young people face when they leave these institutions. It presents two views : firstly {--} how the problems are seen by these young people, secondly {--} how they are described in the most accessible media. The theoretical part characterizes young people leaving Children´s Homes and their most common problems. Next it describes the mentioned institutions (ie. Children´s Homes)and also deals with psychical deprivation and hospitalism. One part is devoted to the relationship between social work and the media in three levels. The practical part consists of the tested sample characterictics ( people from Children´s Homes vs. young people from the population off these). The result {--} the characteristics of the young people view of Children´s Homes and their ill- preparation for an independent life - was made by analysis and interpretation of respondents´ answers. These results are next compared to the results of contents analysis of newspaper articles, video-recorded documentaries and electronic information, freely available in the media.
The application of the preventative behaviour system founded by Don Bosco in children{\crq}s homes of the family type
ŠULOVÁ, Jana
In my investigation I concentrate specifically on cases of children from three children{\crq}s homes in Italy and Czech republic (Casa del bambino PIO XII., private children{\crq}s home Marketa and Church children{\crq}s home Emanuel). In these homes they use preventative bahaviour system founded by Don Giovanni Bosco who was the Italian priest and educator who lived in the 19 century and he founded the work which was dedicated to the poor young people without their home in Turin. The intention of Don Giovanni Bosco was to help to give the right direction to young people. This system has three basic pillars which are reason, kidness and religion. His system demands from the educator constant presence with the children and education with the example of yourself. The preventative behaviour system of Salesiani and its tradition is worth attention for the the prevention of social {--} pathological phenomena.
