Based on studies of those pedagogues (Příhoda, Hendrich, Uher, Čapek, Masaryk), and attitudes fowarde progressive education it describes the background of educational reforms in pre-war Czechoslovakia.

It represents Příhoda{\crq}s life and the sources of inspiration for his thought, e. g. American progressive education. The thesis is focused on Příhoda{\crq}s reform in the 1930s, in particular the reform of promary school, cower and higher secondary school. It also describes the implementation of some reforms in experimental schools.
