Physical and psychological stress for nurses in intensive care
Hroudová, Šárka ; Eislerová, Iva (advisor) ; Marunová, Alice (referee)
A profession as a nurse is one of the most responsible and the most hazardous jobs. According to the statistic data a discipline of health care has the great number of "occupational diseases" cases and they are caused by overdone physical load and mental stress. The thesis targets are the assessments of the load related to the type of work, the awareness of nurses about the prevention against the undue physical load and the mental stress, the motivation and the satisfaction for the nurses at their work. The important parts are the options for a prevention and a reduction of the load and the methods of relaxation and rest. I used two types of questionnaires for my research, the first one was non standard which was focused on the individual targets and the other one was the standard Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire focused on finding a degree of burnout in individual cases. The research was carried out in General University Hospital and in Thomayer University Hospital in Prague. There were compared two departments- a department of internal medicine and a department of surgery in intensive care. The conclusions of my research are: H1: the increased level of load was found in both cases, in the department of internal medicine is dominant the mental stress and in the department of surgery it is...
Health Promotion in the Workplace in Concrete Conditions of a Textile Producing Company
PRŮCHOVÁ, Pavla
I prepared my thesis on Health Support at Workplaces under Particular Conditions of a Textile Factory. The main objective was to determine the company management?s activities in the field of health support. The second objective was to map the information provided to the staff on health support at the workplace, and the third objective was to propose the concept of a specific preventive programme. When preparing the concept of the preventive programme for the textile company I co-operated with the company management and with the company doctor. The reference group was represented by women employed in a textile plant in South Bohemia who worked in different workshops producing car seat covers, housing and children?s clothing. The work described in this thesis was carried out as quantitative research. For data collection I used anonymous questionnaires and the results of this research were plotted on graphs. The thesis is divided into a theoretical part and an empirical part. The theoretical part mainly deals with health support at the workplace, with an analysis of health risks at work including the impact of physical factors. At the beginning of the empirical part I set the goals and set out three hypotheses. Having analysed the collected data I found that H1, H2 and H3 were confirmed. The empirical section includes a description of the research technique which shows that more than 50 per cent of employees of the textile factory are overweight, then that there is a greater occurrence of health problems in the departments of sewing and embroidery machines and many women also had no idea of the meaning of health support at the workplace. According to the results it is possible to say that the textile company does not organize any physical activities or rehabilitative exercises for their employees. Based on the information I would recommend organizing sports courses, providing healthy canteen meals, reducing stress at the workplace and introducing dust extractors in order to reduce dust at the workplace. This thesis may bring the company better working comfort and help to improve the employees? health. The proposed preventive programme can also be a manual for employers in the textile plant in the field of health support at the workplace.
Occurrence of occupational disease in the South Bohemian region
KUČEROVÁ, Eva
When evaluating effects of work on human health it should be remembered that health is a result of mutual effects of several factors. The factors include the general environment and the working environment, genetic factors and lifestyle. Further, the evaluation of a worker´s health condition should take into account his/her exposure outside work. I have selected the topic of the thesis: ``Occurrence of occupational disease in the South Bohemian region `` because I find occupational hygiene the most interesting sphere in the hygienic sector. The objective of my work was to map occupational diseases in the South Bohemian region and to determine the situation in occupational diseases in a selected period. The selected period was 2004 {--} 2008. At the beginning of the thesis I set two hypotheses. The first hypothesis stated that the number of occupational diseases in the South Bohemian region in 2004-2008 was not statistically significantly different from the national average. To test the hypothesis I used a statistical survey using the Student t-test. The second hypothesis stated that occupational diseases occurred most frequently in persons working in the sector of health and social care and veterinary activities. In the case of the first hypothesis the results have confirmed that the number of occupational diseases in the South Bohemian region does not exceed the national average, except in 2007, when the number of occupational diseases was different from the national average. Also the second hypothesis was confirmed (except in 2008, when the number of occupational diseases in the sector of metal structure manufacturing and metal-working products was slightly higher than in the sector of health and social care and veterinary activities). This thesis seeks to evaluate the trends of occurrence of occupational diseases, which may be used for development of preventive measures in this field, particularly by employers and occupational medicine professionals.
