The Burnout Syndrom in Police Work - Symptoms and the Ways to Overcome.

Main topic of this research is problematics of burnout syndrome in police work. Burnout syndrome can affect almost anyone doing repetitive work for long periods of time. The problematic is touching a wide array of careers, especially those, which goal is helping others. Police officer is one of those jobs. Officers in danger of burnout syndrome are those, who are regularly in contact with citizens, not only when they are actively protecting and helping, but also in action like arrests, car accidents or various investigations. Question is, how much do they acknowledge their issues and whether they are willing to talk about them. Goal of this research is to clarify whether police officers are able to recognize beginnings of burnout syndrome, figure out which parts of their work activities are most stressful, to what extend are they in danger and whether they are able to search professional assistance. From which forms the professional help of the police forces consists of and how effective is during their service. Example group consisted of officers from České Budějovice and Zvíkovské Podhradí district departments. And police psychologist. Method used was qualitative research strategy, questioning. Data collection was done using semi-structured and unstructured dialogue and questionnaire Burnout Measure technique. The research resulted in very interesting conclusion, policemen have negative attitude towards professional help in fighting the burnout syndrome. They refuse assistance of police psychologist. Only supports for them are their family and friends. And the most burdensome working area for the policemen is administration.
