Parents expectations from kindergarten teacher and reality

The present bachelor thesis deals with the roles and competencies of preschool teachers. Its main aim is to compare parents' view of the competencies and of the role of teacher with the opinions of the teachers. The theoretical part introduces several definitions of the competencies and roles of the teacher and preschool children. It further provides a description and comparison of the opinions of individual authors on the roles and competencies of a preschool teacher. It also deals with the competencies of preschool children in relation to the teacher's effort to develop these competencies to the maximum extent possible. The thesis also briefly comments on the issue of creating professional standards for preschool teachers and the proposal of a teacher career system related to it. The practical part presents the results of a mixed-mode survey which first used questionnaires for parents to find out about their expectations of the competencies and roles of a preschool teacher. In the next part of the survey, interviews with preschool teachers were conducted. During these interviews were discussed the results of the questionnaires and the teachers' views of and opinions on these results were collected.
