Comparing English and Czech idioms from an onomasiological perspective
Koucká, Anna ; Klégr, Aleš (advisor) ; Čermák, Jan (referee)
The present master's thesis deals with the theme anger in English and Czech phrasemes. The theoretical part describes the basic relevant concepts and terminology of phraseology: the definition of phraseology and phraseological units, the theoretical structural (formal and functional) classification of phrasemes on the lexical, collocational and propositional level, the lexicographical presentation of phrasemes/ idioms in dictionaries (semasiological and onomasiological) and the semantic classification of phrasemes (including metaphors, metonymy, synecdoche and personification). The research and analysis consist of the description of data collection, which are excerpted from two English and one Czech phraseological dictionaries (Cambridge International Dictionary of Idioms, Oxford Dictionary of Idioms and Slovník české frazeologie a idiomatiky I-IV), structural and semantic classification of the phrasemes of both languages from the point of view of their quantitative representation and the final comparison of the samples of the two languages that demonstrates which aspects of the given theme are phraseologically expressed in English and in Czech, how frequently and in what way.
Figurative means and phrasemes in written publicistics
GABRIELOVÁ, Barbora
The topic of this bachelor thesis is the figurative language and the set expressions on the figurative basis set phrases in the written journalism. The work is divided into two parts. The theoretical part describes the functional styles and explains the set phrases and figurative appellation. The attention is paid especially to the functional publicistic style. The second part contains the analysis of analytic texts from the journal Mladá fronta DNES. The aim is to find out, how these means are used, what they serve for, which of them are frequented, whether they are used with understanding and how their updating happens.
Printed newspapers and the Internet news and commentaries
MATUROVÁ, Markéta
The aim of this project is to contribute to the extending of the knowledge of intercultural communication. Since this area is very extensive we will deal only with the problems of intercultural communication in general and we will also cover its application in printed newspapers. One of the other project aims will be a detailed analysis which will show how intercultural communication is being reflected in today?s Czech daily newspapers ( Mladá fronta Dnes, Lidové noviny, Hospodářské noviny, Právo). Comparing with a different type of daily press (e.g. tabloids Blesk and left-oriented Haló noviny) could also be interesting. The language analysis of collected and sorted out material will form the basis of the thesis. The analysis will not comprise only the lexical means but I would also like to draw attention to the metaphorical phrasing (phrasemes) which represents very important part of journalistic style.
