An Analysis of the Experience of Students with a Long-Term Participation in the Peer Programme

The aim of this thesis is to map how students assess their long-term participation in the Peer programme at the Gymnasium, Elgartova 3, Brno. The emphasis is laid on the motivation of the respondents for joining the programme, on the programme objectives and on the way the respondents were influenced by their four-year participation in the Peer programme. The study is based on the methods of qualitative approaches, particularly on the interpretative phenomenological analysis. Four senior "Peers" (three girls and one boy) constitute the research sample, they are student volunteers who prepare and organize numerous events at the Gymnasium Elgartova. The thesis is divided into two parts theoretical and practical. The theoretical part provides a description of the key topics associated with the thesis, such as risk behaviour, adolescence, prevention of the risk behaviour, general concept of the Peer programme and its modification at the Gymnasium Elgartova. The practical part focuses on a detailed description of the questions, objectives and methods of the research. Moreover, the author also provides the self-reflection of his own experience with the programme. The thesis is concluded with a final report which comprises of the research results and accounts for the research questions.
