Jan Valerián Jirsík and his contribution in education in České Budějovice

This diploma thesis deals with methods used in education and upbringing in České Budějovice during the times of Jan Valerián Jirsík and with his contribution in this area. The goal of this thesis is to map the situation in education sector in České Budějovice during the times of episcopate of J. V. Jirsík and finding his ideas and opinions on upbringing and education. The context of the times and situation in České Budějovice is also part of this thesis. Education system used before the times of J. V. Jirsík approach to České Budějovice and basis of his thinking are described at the beginning of the thesis. This is followed by explanation of political, cultural and social situation in České Budějovice during the episcopate of J.V. Jirsík and the thesis is concluded with acts map that led to the quality of upbringing and education improvement in České Budějovice and with his ideas about education system in his times, which were published mainly in Ordinariátní listy.
The pedagogical thinking of Jan Valerián Jirsík in the years 1826-1843

The diploma thesis deals with pedagogical thinking of Jan Valerián Jirsík in the years 1826-1843. The aim of this work is an introduction of Jan Valerián Jirsík´s opinions and ideas which are contained in his literary works. These opinions and ideas are classified to the context of thinking in Jirsík´s time. The work first describes time which Jirsík lived in, what spiritual environmental was around him and how education looked in the Habsburg monarchy. Then the examples of Jirsík´s pedagogical opinions are listed and commented, the examples were chosen from "Škola nedělní" book and "Časopis pro katolické duchovenstvo" magazine.

The thesis deals with the reaction to progressive education and philosophy in Czechoslovakia of 1900 ? 1948, it outlines the development and inclusion of progressivist ideas to educational reform. Next, it survens the reactions Czech pedagogues to progressive education. Based on studies of those pedagogues (Příhoda, Hendrich, Uher, Čapek, Masaryk), and attitudes fowarde progressive education it describes the background of educational reforms in pre-war Czechoslovakia.
