The aim of this bachelor thesis was to point out an importance of etology knowledge in horse breeding. A horse cannot be treated as typical farm animal like cattle, for example. Cattle is primary bred for animal commodities to satisfy human's needs. In the Czech republic, horse breeding is oriented to produce animals for sport, but the horse becomes a friend and a partner like a dog for man with increasing frequency. In this thesis, I described the behaviour of throughbreds in detail and its development from birth to adult life. Behaviour changes during adolescence of individual. Also an environment where the horse lives has certain effect to building its behaviour. I highlighted some specific features which are typical for thoroughbred horses and they cannot be found among other breeds. I utilized the findings from bibliography during my own etological research of english thoroughbred foals.
