Studium starých a krajových odrůd v areálu Valašského muzea v přírodě - Rožnov pod Radhoštěm
Černochová, Zdenka
The objective of the bachelor thesis was the registration of old and regional species of trees, in the Wallachian Open-air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. Each season brought certain changes. Photographs from spring till autumn were taken. Fruit harvesting was an important factor in identifying the species. The medical condition of individual trees was not neglected, and basic biometric information was recorded - the tree diameter, measured with a caliper, trunk height, and trunk girth. There are several reasons why we should preserve old and regional species. Most of all, because of uniqueness; to preserve the genetic makeup. Many species still have a fairly good fruit production. However, we must also not forget their landscape, aesthetic, ethical, social, and cultural importance. To conclude, the thought of Dr. Švec could be used: "Each newly planted tree makes the past better, beautifies the present, and enriches the future. Thus, a fruit tree connects the past with the future through the present, and is an emblem of the continuity of human endeavors." (ŠVEC, 1924)
