The impact of the pandemic on the work of nurses in home care agencies
PAĎOURKOVÁ, Aneta
Current situation: Nurses working in home care agencies take care of clients in their natural home environment and are an integral part of healthcare. Their system of work was affected by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Nurses had to adhere to many extraordinary precautions and rules to prevent the spread of this infectious disease, whilst ensuring the ongoing care of their clients. It is important to note that the work of home care nurses was classified as a frontline service during the fight against the pandemic. Objectives: 1. To find out how home care agency nurses provided nursing care to their clients during the pandemic. 2. To determine the impact of the pandemic on the work of home care agency nurses. 3. To find out what crisis situations the nurses from home care agencies encountered during the pandemic. Methodology: The research part of the bachelor thesis was effected through qualitative research - asking questions. The data collection technique was semi-structured interviews. The obtained data were analyzed by applying the pencil and paper method, open coding. Five categories and 14 subcategories have been created on the basis of the data analysis. Research group: The research group consisted of 10 nurses working in 4 selected home care agencies in the Region of South Bohemia. Results of the work: The results show the influence of the covid-19 pandemic on the work of nurses in home care agencies during the pandemic. Particularly affected were the organization of the work and home visits. The nurses provided nursing care to the clients in the same way as before the pandemic, with the only difference being they wore personal protective equipment. From their subjective point of view, the care provided was of as high a standard as before the pandemic. The nurses also faced several specific crisis situations. Use in practice: The results can be used by non-medical students as well as practitioners of the nursing profession.
The nurse's work from the public's point of view
HÁJKOVÁ, Markéta
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to map the view of the lay public on the profession of a nurse. The theoretical part refers about the development of nursing and the nursing profession throughout history. Furthermore, the work deals with the view of the nurse at present, describes her image and education of nurses at present, and also introduces us to the image of the nurse at the media, including factors that affects the view of the general public.3 hypotheses were used to explore the topic. H1: The perception of the role of nurses is influenced by the gender of the general public. H2: The perception of the prestige of the sisters is affected by the education of the general public. H3: The opinion of the general public on the profession of nurses is affected by the media image. To verify the hypothesis, a quantitative survey was demonstrated, by the form of a questionnaire for the general public. The complete number of returned compliant questionnaires was 195. The resulting data were further processed in the form of graphs or tables and the hypothesis was evaluated by the use of statistics. From the results of the survey, we found out that the lay public, during the first thinking about nurses, contemplates about help. However, we were interested in whether the perception of the role of nurses is influenced by the gender of the public, and due to differences in other elected answers, H1 was confirmed. We were also investigated whether the perception of the prestige of nurses is influenced by the education of the general public. Most of the respondents have a positive view of the prestige of the nurse profession. These respondents were mostly the ones with the highest secondary education with a high school diploma. There were also sufficiently represented other categories of educational attainment and after the evaluation of the data we found out, that the perception of the prestige of the nurses is not influenced by the education of the general public. H2 was therefore rejected. During the last hypothesis, we were interested in whether the public opinion on nurses is influenced by the media image. Most of the respondents think that the media does influence the public's view of nurses. H3 was therefore confirmed.
The job of a nurse in hospice care.
HERZOGOVÁ, Veronika
This bachelor thesis deals with hospice care and focuses on the work of a nurse in the field of hospice care. Hospice care is a comprehensive form of health, psychological and social care that is provided to all patients who suffer from an incurable disease or are in the terminal stage of the disease. Hospice care is closely related to palliative care, which focuses primarily on improving patients' lives and relieving pain. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to map the work of a nurse in the field of hospice care. The empirical part of the bachelor thesis was processed using a qualitative research survey. A semi-structured interview was chosen for the data collection technique. Interviews were conducted with nurses working in hospice facilities throughout the Czech Republic. The interviews revealed that working in a hospice facility is mentally and physically demanding for the nurses, because the hospices lack enough staff to provide quality care and staff. It turned out that doctors often delegate their work to nurses. The most frequently delegated work is the handling of the patient's estate, which is not within the competence of the nurse. Most nurses working in hospice facilities devote all their efforts to work and forget about their personal lives. Most nurses would not recommend working in a hospice facility to other nurses due to financial dissatisfaction and the complexity of this work. The achieved results of the qualitative research survey can serve as a study basis for students of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia and can also help nurses who decide to choose a profession in a hospice facility.
