Numerical implementation of incremental minimization principle for materials with multiple rate-independent dissipative mechanisms
Frost, Miroslav ; Moskovka, Alexej ; Sedlák, Petr ; Valdman, Jan
The incremental energy minimization approach is a compact variational formulation of the evolutionary boundary value problem for constitutive models of materials with a rate-independent response. Although it can be easily applied to many conventional models, its main advantages arise when applied to models with multiple strongly coupled dissipation mechanisms, where the direct construction of the coupled yield conditions and flow rules may be challenging. However, this usually requires a more complex numerical treatment of the resulting sequence of time-incremental boundary value problems resolved via the finite element method. This contribution presents, compares and discusses two genuine minimization approaches - the staggered solution procedure relying on alternating minimization and the monolithic approach employing global minimization - for an advanced constitutive model of shape memory alloys.
Numerical calibration of material parameters of selected directional distortional hardening models with combined approach using both distorted yield surfaces and stress-strain curves

The plastic strain induced anisotropy is a well-known phenomenon in manufacturing and directional distortional hardening represents a very promising way to capture real plastic behavior of metals. Many papers were published in the past typically extending the von Mises yield criterion with directionally dependent internal variable and defining yield point at the basis of plastic strain offset. Material parameters of these models were typically calibrated at the basis of deformed yield surfaces only, which – as revealed – could lead to certain discrepancies in simple stress-strain response. Presented paper introduces a numerical calibration approach taking both distorted yield surfaces and stress-strain curves information into account. Besides the calibration procedures, innovative applications of experimental techniques such as the acoustic emission for an acquisition of yield inception and plastic straining, convexity of the models, or numerical implementation of these models are discussed.
Numerical implementation of generalized non-linear kinematic hardening rule for elastic-plastic constitutive equations
Papuga, J. ; Plešek, Jiří
The Armstrong-Frederick and Chaboche models were generalized in the framework of non-linear kinematic hardening theory. A procedure for solving the hardening evolution law was implemented within the PMD FEM package. Both the generalized constitutive ml and the way of implementation as well as the differences between the three types of hardening rules are reported in detail.
