Mertová, Monika
Nontraditional plants that can be used for food can be found in the nature everywhere around us. They can improve the absorption of healthy nutriens in a normal diet or replace traditional food. 30 herbs were selected and a list with information about their origin and their basic botanical description was prepared. Instructions were written on how to grow those herbs in the gardens or at home including the best conditions for each individual plant species. Fresh plants that are, used for food contain a lot of minerals and vitamins. Some species (Stachys affinis, Scorzonera hispanica, Arctium lappa, Helianthus tuberosus), when cooked, can replace potatoes in the nutrition of people with the diabetes disease. Many of those plants are medicinal herbs that can be used in natural healing as well as in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
