Restoration of the monastery in Šternberk
Pecháčková, Lucie ; Kocourek, Tomáš (referee) ; Guzdek, Adam (advisor)
The subject of the thesis is an architectural study of the restoration and new use of the historic building of the former monastery in Šternberk and the surrounding garden. The monastery is owned by the city, which is looking for a usage for it. The goal of the proposal is to give this monument a new life, i.e. to make it town‘s living part, which will have not only historical, but also contemporary social significance. And thanks to this, it also will have the means for its maintenance and preservation of historical values for future generations. This purpose of the study is solved by creating a pleasant and easily accessible garden environment and by choosing the content of the building, which will give people a reason to visit and use the monastery grounds more. The architectural design is based on an analysis of the current situation and freely reflects the ideas of the town management. And at the same time, from the point of view of historic preservation, the proposal strives for the greatest possible degree of preservation or restoration of valuable historical building constructions and details. The new content of the building is a hotel with wellness, a restaurant, a cafe, offices and a coworking center, exhibition spaces, art studios and a multifunctional town hall. The building is complemented by new architectural elements of the central staircase with elevator and the atrium roof, which, like the park arrangement of the garden, combine contemporary architecture with the concept of baroque morphology.
Restoration of the monastery in Šternberk
Sarvašová, Anna ; Kocourek, Tomáš (referee) ; Guzdek, Adam (advisor)
The subject of the diploma thesis was an architectural study of the restoration proposal of the Augustinian monastery Šternberk. The building is owned by the city, whose task is to create new functions and uses for the abbey. The city did not concretize the plans for the construction of the monastery, it was more about a vision of the future and the discovery of new possibilities. Based on the analysis of the existing domain, conclusions are drawn about the use of new functions. The abbey is centrally located and is operationally and structurally connected to the Roman Catholic Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. The monastery also has a garden, which is currently inaccessible and unused. The plan is to revitalize the garden and build an underground parking lot that will serve the monastery and the city. The garden will be open to the public and at the same time will allow access to another part of the city. Revival of the monastery and its gardens should make the location more attractive and attract people to the city. The goal of the proposal is to create a high-quality public environment in the historic core of Šternberk..
Renovation of the castle in Velké Němčice
Malínková, Valerie ; Muroň, Ivo (referee) ; Ležatka, Lukáš (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the restoration of a castle in Velké Němčice. The thesis builds on an architectural study carried out in the AG033 course of the Restoration of Monuments Studio. The task of the thesis is to create a complete project for the appropriate restoration and reconstruction of the castle and to propose its new utilization. At the same time, the thesis focuses on the solution of the castle's immediate surroundings. The object of the solution will be designed as a socially cultural object with administrative functions. The castle should serve as a new town hall, and in accordance with this, the following rooms will be created in the castle: a ceremonial hall, information center, mayor's office, secretary's office, registry office, accountant's office, archive, library, club room, refreshment facility, and interactive room. To achieve the implementation of the new operation in the castle, the correct restoration of the historical object is necessary. Using surveys and historical sources, I examine the architectural values and construction of the building. I strive to preserve historically significant layers, remove intrusive modern elements, and return the object its original expression. With the help of new technologies, I also strive to preserve the building for future generations. I propose minimum use of modern structures and elements, and therefore mainly focus on proper reconstruction and restoration.
Restoration of the chateau in Velke Nemcice
Danková, Andrea ; Špiller, Martin (referee) ; Guzdek, Adam (advisor)
The topic of the bachelor's thesis is the restoration of the chateau in the village of Velké Němčice. The documentation is based on an architectural study processed within the subject AG033 Studio of Architectural Creation - Restoration of Monuments. The chateau is located in the historical center of the village, where it has been standing since the second half of the 16th century. It will primarily be used as a village office, but it will also have associated functions - an information center, a ceremonial room, a cafe, room for local associations and a municipal library. As part of the project, the wider area around the chateau will be transformed into an area worthy of the cultural and historical center of the village. The space will be modified as a park, which should be used for the recreation of local residents, at the same time, parking spaces and space for seasonal markets will be prepared. The proposed object has a U-shaped floor plan (the middle wing is on the east side, the other wings are north and south). The building has one underground floor, two above-ground floors and an attic. There is a hipped roof over almost the entire floor plan. Currently, part of the chateau is an extension from the 20th century in the central part of the western facade; however this extension will be removed. An extension with the function of a library will be added to the northern wing of the chateau. This extension will follow the historical building in its form and size, but the materials of its structures (glass facade, reinforced concrete skeleton support system) have been chosen so that the extension has a contrasting effect.

The Scar
Sláma, Matěj ; Nytra, Martin (referee) ; Mazanec, Martin (advisor)
Diploma thesis Scar is a short film about the fictional history of the found „monument“. In the animated film, I examine the context and meaning of the „monument“ in a virtual environment that I created based on visual documentation and mapping of specific places that I explored during my expeditions through the urban landscape of Brno and The Hague. These are mainly „lost“ spaces (also referred to as vague terrain or no man's land), which inspired me to create my own visual map of my urban explorations. The starting point of the work is personal lived experience, which I reflect by documenting places, creating 3D objects and manipulating 3D scans of „lost“ spaces with elements of computer games. In the resulting film, the viewer follows a guide–walk through a virtual environment where objective reality is intentionally blended with a fictional world built on the author's imagination.

František Bílek´s work in České Budějovice - art historical characteristics
FILOUS, Štěpán
This bachelor thesis will focus on the work of the sculptor František Bílek (1872-1941) in České Budějovice. Bílek created two monumental sculptural works right in the city - a stone monument to the writer Otakar Mokrý (1919) in today's Na Sadech park and several pieces of sculpture decoration in the interior of the Husův sbor church (1924) on today's Palacký square. Preparatory drawings and sculptures for both works have been preserved in the collections of Aleš South Bohemian Gallery in Hluboká. The aim of the thesis will be primarily a thorough iconographic analysis of Bílek's monumental realizations and also their art-historical analysis, while the author will use the just-mentioned related works in AJG. The author will also focus on the ordering context of the creation of the monument and the church decoration, or the position of both works in Bílek's related work. If it is possible and appropriate, the author will include references to other works in the AJG, which illustrate the iconographic and material breadth of Bílek's work.
The Marshal Koněv Monument as a "Site of Memory": Mediating Post-Soviet Collective Memory in Prague
Coleman, Grace Abel ; Asavei, Maria Alina (advisor) ; Bauer, Paul (referee)
This thesis critically examines the interaction between memory construction, representation, contestation, and interpretation within the Czech collective memory context through a detailed qualitative analysis examination of one Czech "site of memory" - the former monument to Marshal Ivan Stěpanovič Koněv in Prague 6. The analysis is informed by the theoretical assumption that collective memory construction and interpretation are continually interacting, and the meaning and function are continuously changing. As such, multiple components of the memory site are incorporated: the changing site in Prague 6, counter-monument responses occurring elsewhere in Prague, discourses surrounding the site in media and social media, and qualitative survey research of individual and local consumption of memory narratives surrounding the monument and media discourses. The results of this analysis demonstrate a clearly articulated struggle for the possession of memory narratives surrounding the monument. These tensions reflect shifts in the Czech collective mnemonic framework and the inherent plurality of memories within that framework. Consequently, there is no clear consensus as to how collective memory regarding Koněv and his historic legacy should or is represented in the present-day Czech political, cultural,...
