Roman military equipment in provicial context

This thesis deals with roman military equipment with respect to various finding circumstances of civilian character. Based on the context of the find, this thesis also focus on the purpose, for which the subject was used (self-defense, hunting). There is also evaluated importance of fabricae in civilian sites, their beginnings, operation and reason of their termination. In addition, this work is complemented by a system of military workshops, for better understanding of production of military equipment in provincial areas. Goal of this thesis is assessment of roman military equipment, from civil contexts, especially from the Rhineland.
Roman sword scabbard and its Fittings during the Principate

This thesis deals with comparison of archaeological and iconographical material, which is releated with military equipment from early and middle Principate. Goal of this work is assessment of Roman military equipment, which is mostly upcoming from limes and iconographical side of gravestones or other reliefs from that period. Based on this analysis the work is primary focused on typology of decorative fittings of scabbards, for example protective features (display of gods and heroes, apotropaic point), further work appraise propaganda motives for example in the form of a portrait of emperor and his triumph.

(in English): In this work, I briefly described history of the Roman army and the development of armor and helmets in the principate period. I also focused on creating the typology of this kind of military equipment. I also described iconographic scenes that appear on these military equipment and I described the sources that relate to this topic.
Arms and armor of Achaemenid army

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to introduce Arms and Armour of Achaemenid Army. In this study I describe briefly clothing, arms and armour of the Persian army during the period since the reign of Cyrus the Great until the reign of Darius III. Kodomanés. War strategy of the Persian army will be also mentioned, whereas it is not possible to present military equipment without an adequate description of the method of use. Firstly we use the historical writings by Greek authors to describe Achaemenid arms. Furthermore, we observe the appearance and evolution of weapons and equipment in art. Artistic monuments of Persian origin, Scythian artefacts, which decoration was greatly influenced by Achaemenid art, Greek artefacts, to which, however, should be approached with caution, and the art of some other Asian nations (Lydians, Phrygians) we use as a sources of information. Secondly, we introduce a categorisation of weapons and equipment. The most important is the division of equipment between infantry and cavalry. In both sections, we firstly describe the clothing of troops, further we introduce defensive equipment and offensive weapons. Development of greek helmets from archaic to hellenistic age

This work deals with development of greek helmets from archaic to hellenistic age. It allocates the main types of used helmets and typologically divides them. To the types are attached their different variants. They are divided according to period of greatest use. The work is trying to date changes, which are appearing by the production of types. Helmets are supplemented with iconographical parallels. Images are documented in vase paintng, scuplture, coins and small bronzes. The work is also observing paralles otside the Greek mainland and compares different production processes mainly in Great Greece. The purpose of this work is to show division of the helmets based on the original founds.
