Why should we like math
BENÍŠKOVÁ, Zuzana
This work deals with math as a subject and its popularity among students. The work includes the results of international surveys in the field of math, creative teaching methods and the design of mathematical games and projects that will make it easier for students to understand and master selected terms. The diploma thesis thus presents math in a playful form and can serve not only students of the second grade of primary schools and lower grammar schools, but also teachers of math.

Bártlová, Tereza ; Pick, Luboš (advisor) ; Silva, Jorge Nuno (referee) ; Levy, Doron (referee)
Dissertation abstract The present thesis is devoted to the study of recreational mathematics, with a particular emphasis on its history, its relation to serious mathematics and its educational benefits. The thesis consists of five papers. In the first one we investigate the history of recreational mathematics. We focus on the development of mathematical problems throughout history, and we try to point out the people who had an important influence on the progress of recreational mathematics. The second article is dedicated to Edwin Abbott Abbott and his book called Flatland. It is one of the first popularizing books on geometry. In the third article we review one of the prominent personalities of recreational mathematics, Martin Gardner. The fourth article is in some sense a sequel to the third one. It deals with treachery of mathematical intuition and mathematical April Fool's hoaxes. The last article is devoted to the implementation recreational mathematics to education of students. 1
Mathematical games in French
Bufková, Tereza ; Novotná, Jarmila (advisor) ; Šulista, Marek (referee)
The Mathematical Games in French language My diploma thesis deals with one of the possible strategies in bilingual education - CLIL method, which links teaching of a technical subject and a foreign language - mathematics and French, in this case. As a tool for its implementation, I chose games because I consider them as an entertaining and a very available way of teaching. The aim of this thesis was to find out and to describe the potential of this education at different school levels. At the beginning, I focus on general integration of the technical subject and the foreign language, and then I mention the importance of didactic games and basic terminology of mathematical terms in French. The core of this thesis is my own selection of games in Czech and French language intended for three levels of school. This file was inspired by several mathematical books on didactic games. The gained data have been processed on the base of observation and analysis of individual worksheets. The results show the potential of CLIL method as a new possibility for bilingual teaching of technical subjects.
