Gendarmerie and its´ activity in České Budějovice region during the first Czechoslovak Republic, 1919-1945

The bachelor thesis focuses on the activities of the gendarmerie in České Budějovice during the first Czechoslovak Republic, with a special focus on the Gendarmerie station Borovany. The first chapter is an introduction to the issues of this work. The second chapter provides basic information about the Czechoslovak gendarmerie. It contains a definition of the Czechoslovak gendarmerie, its brief history and organizational structure. It also deals with the Czechoslovak gendarmerie law, describes the mission and tasks of the gendarmerie. It also describes the nature of service rewards and benefits, discusses the equipment and armament of the gendarmerie, the conditions of admission to the gendarmerie corps and, finally, the daily schedule of the Czechoslovak gendarmerie. The third chapter describes the organizational structure of the gendarmerie in České Budějovice. The fourth chapter is the pivotal part of this bachelor thesis. It is based on preserved archival materials and so called ego-documents and their analysis. In the monitored period, it discusses the village of Borovany and the Gendarmerie station Borovany. Based on the analysis of the station books, it describes the district station and the activities of the gendarmes, and according to the information from the filing protocols, the communication of the station is analyzed. The gained knowledge is summarized in the final passage.
