PUPPET IN MOTION PICTURE

In this thesis I focus on the use of puppets in motion pictures, reasons for their use and their specification within this media. Partly I touch the similar subject in terms of their use in theatre, while describing both the historical context and my own experience. Through examples of my own work I reflect my own different approaches towards puppets that have changed on the ground of my gained experience.

VENCELIDESOVÁ, Petra: Master's thesis: Visual concept for the feature film "Puppet Syndrome", screenplay by Alena Alova, based on the novel "Petrushka syndrome" by Dina Rubina. The aim of the thesis is to get familiar with what brings the interconnection of theatre and film, and which art mediums can be used for this purpose. By analyzing several films from various cultural backgrounds and epochs, we can gain a more complete picture of how to work with this theme. Also, the thesis examines production design and its effect in the overall atmosphere and concept of the given film. The main part of the thesis is a visual concept of the film "Puppet Syndrome", in which occurs a significantly theatrical performance as one of the main factors in the development of the story.
