Implementing the Circle of Support Method Into Early Care
DVOŘÁKOVÁ, Aneta
This diploma thesis deals with introduction of the Circle of Support method into the Early care. Specifically it focuses on the newly emerging method called the Circle of Support, which is to support the family and over all strenghten the informal support of the family. It is based on gathering with the people who are close to the family and the disabled child. Together these people try to come up with ideas how to support the child and his family, and this way reach the set goal and progress of the child. The perk of the Circle od Support is that also professionals are in touch with the child and therefore have a different perspective on the situation of the family. The main goal of this diploma thesis is to map out the opinions of the Early care workers in relation to introduction of the Circle of Support method into the Early care. Another goals were to evaluate positive and negative sides in the process of introducing this method from the Early care workers point of view. Next was to map the expectations of the Early care workers with introduction of this method into their work and to map the contribution of the Circle of Support for Early care workers and users. In connection with the already mentioned goals of this diploma thesis there were determined three questiones, which should be answered. In the empirical part of the diploma thesis there were used qualitative strategies of research, the method of asking and the Focus Group technique. Assemblage of research constituted of 8 workers from two providers of social services in the Bohemia Region. The data have been appraised using coding and sorted into categories for clearer arrangement. Research shows that besides of communication partners having worries of introducing the Circle of Support into practice, in the end they were glad to overcome the concerns and to start to use the Circle of Support. The biggest contribution for the Early care is, that the method is a comprehensive and thought through concept, which is aimed on the individual and his family and it aims for clear and concrete goal. Next on, this method uses the creativity of the participants, is very positive and makes the participants feel natural using it. Next contribution is that also the friends and broader family are included in the work with the family. A brief, apt outputs come of this meetings, which can help to the child and his family. The main perks of the Circle of Support are in enrichment of already existing style of work, quality improvement of provided service, providing positive attitude, using new tools and finding immediate and current goals of the family. Also positive impact has the adaptability of young family, establishing trustful and open relationship between the social worker and the family, finding distance from the problems for the family, development of creativity. Next perk is progress of the child, meeting of the multidisciplinary team and the whole family, therefore perception of the family's situation from another points of view and parents realising that they are not alone in their difficult situation. The disadvantages of the Circles of support are mostly in time management, for instance the time possibilities of participants, professionals and organizers. Next is the demanding nature of the organization of the Circle of Support and the unwillingness of proffesionals and informal support of the family to be part of the Circle of Support. The results of my thesis can be useful not only for students and people potential interested in this service, but primarily for the providers of the Early care. It can also be useful for the consultants of the Early care who can, thanks to this method, extend the offer of provided services and also improve the quality and make the work with the family more effective.
