Analysis of the competitive effect in public procurement in Scotland

The topic of this thesis is to study the competitive effect within public procurements. According to economic theory, increased competition on the supply side lower the final price. Therefore the main task of this thesis is by using an econometric analysis determine the validity of hypotheses about the positive effect from increasing number of bidders in public procurement on decreasing their final prices. Underlying database for the analysis is the statistical selection set, created from public procurements in the field of transport infrastructure in Scotland in 2006 - 2011. In the introduction to the thesis is general analysis of the environment of public procurement in Scotland, then continue the test of the empirical validity of the formulated hypotheses and finally take place results comparison with similar work in the CR and the economic recommendations on the subject.
