Life of sisters from Saint Ursula in time of communism
Trunečková, Pavlína ; Doskočil, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Krátká, Lenka (referee)
This thesis deals with the relationship between the state and the Catholic Church during the years 1948 - 1989 and its impact on women's religious orders, namely the Union Order of St. Ursula, whose members in 1950 have been victims of internment and as a result of the centralization of the state in the event "Ř". Specific stories of six nuns documented the conditions in which the Order was forced to survive in a time when the activities of all religious orders were prohibited. The persecution of nuns were forced to work in agriculture, industry, and later also worked in psychiatric hospitals and social care institutions. The authentic experiences of survivors help us not only to reconstruct the sequence of historical events, but also give us nuns personal views on this difficult period, during which, regardless of circumstances, they managed to maintain their inner freedom. Individual narrative report in view of the time they experienced mostly match, but we find little differences. The aim of this work is to find continuity in the experiences, to understand and learn the motivations behind the positions of the narrators and on this basis to achieve at least partial conclusions. Press Act no. 81/1966 and its influence on the events of the Prague Spring
Henychová, Eliška ; Cebe, Jan (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
Thesis deals with the Press Act no. 81/1966 Coll., on periodical press and other mass media and its influence on the events of the Prague Spring reform in 1968. I wanted to highlight how important role the press act and its legalization of censorship of the press and other mass media played in the process of democratization of the communist regime. Institutionalized censorship became the impetus for sharpening criticism of the ruling Communist Party. After many years when censorship interventions were carried out illegally, it was possible to lawfully defend against this tool of communist managing, controlling and restricting freedom of expression and to demand its abolition. Very strongly the demand for abolition censorship came after IV. congress of the Union of Czechoslovak Writers. Part of the reform-minded senior officials of the Communist Party which supported the democratization of the system, advocated the attainment of freedom of expression, because they knew that a free media can most effectively contribute to the reform ideas with which they identify. Achieving abolition of censorship then really brought into media content quite open criticism of the existing socio situation in the country and also an appeal that it is necessary to reform it. Media created political pressure and acted as...

Diploma thesis "Transition to Democracy in Czechoslovakia in 1989 from a Transition Theory Perspective" is an analysis of the Czechoslovak transition to democracy in the year 1989. The author analyses the character of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia and the further development of the country after the year 1989 dealing with some of the more general politological aspects such as the strategies of the participants, analyses of the most important agents and factors of the change, etc. Therefore, various politological theories are introduced in the theoretical part (theory of non-democratic regimes, theory of transition, used theories by Juan J. Linz, Carl J. Friedrich, Alfred Stepan, Samuel Huntington and of other relevant authors). The theories are later applied to the Czechoslovak communist regime and to its transition to democracy. Political trials led by the communist regime against women in the case of Milada Horáková, Fráňa Zemínová and Antonie Kleinerová and their media representation in the Czech press of the time
Dovenerová, Sylvie ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; NÁHRADNÍ, OPONENT (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze media reprezentation of three women in the trial Milada Horáková et al. in May and June 1950 concocted by four Czech leading Daily Newspapers of the time. It tries to evaluate the picture of women as an enemy for the communist regime. This Soviet style show trial represents some of the worst excesses of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia in the fifties. In the theoretical part, it describes political, economical and social changes after the Communist takeover in February 1948. It points out the reasons for establishing and designing political trials in Czechoslovakia. The practical part represents the results of a basic quantitative analysis focused on size and its comparision of media attention of Milada Horáková, Frána Zemínová and Antonie Kleinerová in each newspaper and an interpretation of all different pictures of these women which the media offered to the public. This thesis reveals how the communist propaganda was used to identify the class enemy and then misused it to manipulate a public perception.
