Krupec, Radoslav
As human society changes so do people’s expectations of their environment. The same goes for urban areas, whose inhabitants expect that public places will meet their expectations regarding their function, aesthetics as well as opportunities for physical exercise, cultural events, socializing and/or relaxing surrounded by nature. This Bachelor Thesis deals with the system of public urban areas, specifically analyzing S. H. Vajanský Square in Martin and finally proposing a revitalization study of the selected area in accordance with the principles of an ideal city. This concept refers to a city that is full of life, safe for its inhabitants, sustainable and healthy, which can be achieved through a combination of adequate composition elements (e.g. vegetation, water and lighting) and organizational measures, including segregation of traffic or providing pleasant social/cultural program (e.g. hosting markets and concerts). Public places in Lyon, New York and Copenhagen can serve as good examples of modern and functional urban areas, which are vibrant and overflowing with life. The lively nature of S. H. Vajanský Square disappeared a long time ago and has not returned yet. Rigorous and complex analyses were performed, including an analysis of positive and negative aspects of the selected area. By means of enhanced vegetation, new water elements, attractive outdoor furniture, diverse opportunities for leisure time activities, and the management of currently suboptimal traffic situation in the area, this study aims to increase popularity and visit rate of the square. This Bachelor Thesis includes the design and 3D modelling of the proposed revitalization of S. H. Vajanský Square in Martin, which meet the requirements of a functional and modern public space within the frame of an ideal city.
