Possibilities of using recycled materials for the green roofs constructions

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of using recycled building materials in the green roofs. It studies the history, function, benefits and negative impacts, composition, division and structural layers of green roofs. The work describes the production, application and common features of recycled building materials. It determines the basic properties of selected recyclates and evaluates their partial suitability as some of the layers of a green roof.

The Bachelor Thesis is focused on green roof gardens. The literature research is based on the typologies, functions, vegetative carrier layers and plants characteristics which are suitable for green roofs. For the experimental part one green roof was chosen where the technology of green roof foundation was described with the details of the vegetative carrier layer. Finally there is evaluating of the plants assortment and the care management. According to the researched information there were found some differences among the types of greening and their possibilities.

According the development of my batchelor theis I found out that the roof gardens are very architectural-artistically valuace, aesthetic, and very important for the balacing the temperature differences, reducing dust levels and restoration of vegetation in cities. Nowadays, the roof gardens are receiving the awareness and many Czech companies implement their realization. The only drawback is the need for imported materials for the foundation from abroad, since the Czech Republic is not so various market of these products. Foreign companies offering the material are mostly dealing with the implementation in the Czech Republic but the real realization is provided by native Czech company. Each company uses specific technology. Some of the foundation roof gardens are carried out intensive and some of them extensive way of greening. Both of these ways have surely their pros and cons.

This bachelor thesis deals with the use and maintenance of selected vegetation elements for building structures used in contemporary garden and landscape design, especially of green rous and green facades. The aim of the thesis is to make a recherche and evaluation of study material concerning the topic and their critical evaluation. Following part deals with selection options of the plant's material and sortiment suitable for green roofs constructions and green facades constructions and at selected representatives to process visual documentation of vegetation elements for building construction. Green facades are divided into climbing plants, that dominate in the exterior and vertical gardens are mainly seen in the interior. It is very important to differentiate various kinds of roof gardens with their specific demands on the building constructions as well as on the vegetation used for planting them. According to these criteria, roof gardens are divided into three categories: intensive, simple intensive and extensive. Currently the green roofs are not only designed due to architectonic requirements, but also the utility aspects come into considerations and well as environmental reasons.
