Can We Consider Inflation as a Suitable Indicator of Inflation?
Kloudová, Dana ; Hudík, Marek (advisor) ; Mičúch, Marek (referee)
Output gap belongs to standard indicators of inflationary pressures used in central banks. The aim of this paper is to find the answer to the question, whether we can consider output gap as a suitable indicator of inflation for the Czech economy. First hypothesis, which we analysed is that we can estimate output gap only with uncertainty. For confirmation or refutation of this hypothesis we used ten models of estimation of output gap. The second hypothesis is that output gap can be used as suitable indicator of inflation. For testing of this hypothesis we chose gap model from Coe, McDetmott (1997) -- with the level of output gap and the change (difference) of output gap. All tests confirmed, that central bank can use inflation as a useful indicator of inflation.
The use of technical indicators in position trading of commodity futures
Fičura, Milan ; Musílek, Petr (advisor)
In this thesis I have tried to describe the basics of futures trading, technical analysis and trading system development. Particularly I have focused on technical indicators, where I have described the majority of those that are most often used for futures trading today. Further I have focused on trading system development and described the proces of backtesting, optimalization and evaluation of trading systems. In the practical part of this chapter I have developed 30 simple trading systems and then backtested them on the historical daily data of 10 commodity futures contracts during the years 2001-2010. To simulate a real trading conditions i have used the years 2001-2005 for optimalization and development, and the years 2006-2010 for backtesting and evaluation. The results were that most of the systems reached relatively good profits, but only low robustness and high riskiness. Also the contra-trend systems performed much worse in the second period than the trend-following systems. From the results i could reject the hypothesis that the yields of the systems (in the second period) are random on 0,1% level of significance. However, it can't be said surely, if the systems have "beat the market" (on risk-adjusted basis), because altrought their net returns were extraordinary, their riskiness was also very high.

Cannabis Users in the Context of Treatment Demand Indicators
Šťastná, L. ; Miovský, Michal
The increase in cannabis consumption in the past decade has created a need for continuous monitoring of risk behaviour indicators and a need for better prediction of this development in relation on the future demand for conselling and treatment interventions. A specific position among these indicators is occupied by the Treatment Demand ů TD, showing the total number of users in treatment for the period in question, and the First Treatment Demand Indicator ů FTD, showing the total number of individuals demending treatment for the first time in their lives for the period in question. In addition to providing a summary of these indicators in the Czech Republic, the authors deal with the secondary analysis of the data collected by means of a qualitative study using the focus-group method. The study focused on the service providers who reported the highest numbers of treatment demands for the year 2002.
The Application of Technical Analysis to the Czech Capital Market in the Period of Economic Recession
Špringer, Milan ; Pígl, Jan (advisor)
These lines deal with both theoretical and analytical view of real usability of individual methods and techniques in the Czech capital market in the period of economic crisis (2008-2009). The document introduces the basic technical analysis methodology (the technique based on graphics outputs of specific data files and the technique based on the mathematical indicators) in the theoretical chapters. An introduction and subsequent description of the mentioned methodology in the sphere of price predication of shares and funds is the main tendency in this theoretical chapter, not the profound interpretation. The work attends to concrete analysing of some basic hypothesises of common usability of our main theme, technical analysis. Price development of the selected titles and the endeavour to apply the techniques described in the theoretical chapter to these data series are included in the analytical chapter. The reader wants to make his own idea of how is the real usage of such an analysis difficult. Very helpful is also a demonstration of a big measure of subjective level in production and calculation of some indicators. Final part shows us the most interesting results for the practical usability of the mentioned methods and indicators in the sphere of the Czech Capital Market.
