This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of identity loss in the virtual space of social networks. Specifically, it focused on individuals whose profile account on the digital platform Instagram was stolen. The thesis is structured into theoretical and practical parts. In the first, knowledge of the concepts necessary to grasp the chosen topic of digital identity (narrative, performative) is presented, including a thorough description of Instagram against the background of everyday life. The second part focuses on the qualitative research, which builds on the analysis of twelve semi-structured interviews, along with the walkthrough and autoethnography method. The thesis also looks at the potential contradiction of the concept of digital data ownership within a defined cyberspace where privacy is viewed differently and differently from the offline sphere. The text attempts to unpack the issue of notions of value and intellectual property in relation to digital identity, which Instagram users do not handle or treat the concepts in the same way as the platform itself (terms of use) or legal definitions. At the end of the practical part, the thesis also outlines the relationship of Instagram social network users in general to digital technologies.
