Interest and utilization of alternative methods during a childbirth
ZWETTLEROVÁ, Andrea
A dictionary of foreign words defines the term ``alternative{\crqq} as a choice from two or more options. This means that the word alternative means a certain possibility to choose. The term alternative methods of child birth responds to the situation which existed until recently, when individual wishes of a woman in the course of child delivery were not respected and interventions were made even in case of physiological and normally developing deliveries. In my bachelor thesis I have investigated whether expecting mothers are interested in alternative methods of child birth and whether they have opportunities to use them. In order to collect information to achieve my objective and to process the data I have used a combination of quantitative and qualitative survey, by means of questionnaires and interviews. The data were collected in the hospital in Jindřichův Hradec. The surveyed group were pregnant women planning to give birth at the maternity ward in the hospital in Jindřichův Hradec and midwifes working at the delivery room of the same hospital. The survey was based on three objectives, three hypotheses and three survey questions. The survey has shown that all the objectives have been met, the hypotheses were confirmed and answers to the survey questions were found. The acquired data may be primarily useful for students of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies and for midwifes interested in alternative methods of child birth. Last but not least, the results may be also useful for the maternity ward of the hospital in Jindřichův Hradec to find out which alternative methods of child birth are on demand among pregnant women. The today´s modern obstetrics stresses the childbirth, among other things, as a very special event in the family´s life. Memories of this beautiful experience should be kept not only by the child´s mother but also by the closest family
