Carl Nielsen´s late style in works for flute
Pingitzer, Simona ; VÁLEK, Jiří (advisor) ; KVĚCH, Otomar (referee)
Carl Nielsen was the greatest Denmark´s composer who lived from 1865 to 1931. The thesis mentions the development of Nielsen´s composition style beginning with his early music and ending with his mature years of composing. All works are compared comprehensively. In his early years, there is a domination of the elements typical for romantic lyricism, but later on, his composition technique becomes influenced by the progressive styles of the 20th century. The thesis is focused on the composer´s late music, because most of his flute works were written during his mature years. The compositions analysed in detail are following: orchestral work Pan and Syrinx, op.49, a piece for flute solo from the incidental music Aladdin, op.34, three pieces from the incidental music Moderen, op.41, Wind Quintet, op.43, Concerto for Flute and Orchestra, six symphonies and Rhapsody Overture: An Imaginary Trip to the Faroe Islands . On one hand, the analysis of each work is accentuated, but on the other hand, the historical events and facts from Nielsen´s life which affected his compositions are pointed out.

Flute in the works by JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH
Jakubcová, Anna ; PIVODA, Radomír (advisor) ; VÁLEK, Jiří (referee)
This bachelor.s thesis speaks about works by Johann Sebastian Bach, in which we can find a flute score. It should be a summary . it is necessary to mention the cantatas, masses, brandenburg concertos and also very important flute sonatas. We also talk about works, which are not authentic, but which were for a long time played under Bach?Ls name. I also put the transcriptions into the list, which are now played on the flute (for example Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello Suites BWV 1007-12). This thesis should make easier to find information about these works. Because of the chronological list we can find out the origin and the purpose of the work. Details can be found in certain chapters. You can also find a chapter about Helmuth Rilling and his point of view.
Sir Malcolm Arnold. Life and work, focusing on flute repertoire
Reiprich, Oto ; PIVODA, Radomír (advisor) ; VÁLEK, Jiří (referee)
The thesis concerns Malcolm Arnold, one of the most significant English composers of the 20th century, and his favorite instrument - the flute. In the biographical part it focuses on Arnold`s difficult and complicated life, his mental illness and the consequent impact of these facts on his work. It gives special attention to personalities and circumstances which are associated with Arnold`s compositions for flute. The second part involves formal and harmonical analysis of his two concertos for flute and orchestra and the Fantasy for solo flute. I have factored in the influences of different 20th century musical styles - serial methods, jazz, cabaret performances - in his composition techniques. The work is based on my personal interpretation experience.
